The 4th edition of the Goa Open Arts grant was offered to artists whose project sought to engage publics and public spaces. Each artist approached this idea through their own interpretation.
Otherworlds, a collaboration between architects Arko and Sohil Soni, reimagined the changing urban landscape of Goa through an immersive outdoor sculpture that invited audiences to play, discover, learn and engage through physical participation. Ali, Rah and Srishti considered themes of otherness and the politics of belonging in public space through their film project ‘Trespassers will be Prosecuted’. The BGirl Project, led by BGirl Johanna Rodrigues also contemplated the question of who is allowed to occupy public space, and focussed on a community led initiative teaching young women and girls from Moira and Aldona to dance and embody space with joy, confidence and creativity.
